Is It Me, or Is My Jawline Slowly Disappearing?
Let’s have a real conversation for a minute. Have you ever looked in the mirror while getting ready for work and thought, “When did that happen?” Maybe you’ve noticed your jawline doesn’t look as crisp as it used to, or perhaps you’re starting to see a little fullness along the lower face that wasn’t there a few years ago. One day you’re taking a selfie without a second thought, and the next you’re adjusting your camera angle because something just feels different.
The truth is that you’re not imagining it, and you’re certainly not alone. One of the most common concerns I hear from patients at Charmed Medispa in Newark, Delaware is that they feel like their face is slowly changing shape. Many people describe it as feeling like everything is moving downward. “My face is melting.” While that might sound dramatic, it’s actually a pretty accurate description of what happens as we age.
Over time, we naturally lose collagen, facial fat, and even some of the bone support that helps maintain youthful facial contours. The cheeks gradually flatten, the skin loses elasticity, and the lower face begins to carry more weight than it once did. This often leads to the appearance of jowls and a less defined jawline. What surprises many patients is that the problem isn’t usually the jawline itself. In many cases, the loss of support begins higher in the face and slowly affects everything beneath it.
This is one of the reasons I love combining Sculptra and dermal filler. Rather than simply adding volume to an area that bothers you, we’re looking at the entire face and asking why that change occurred in the first place. Sculptra works by stimulating your body’s own collagen production, helping rebuild some of the structural support that has been lost over time. Filler can then be used strategically to restore contour and balance in areas that need additional support.
The goal isn’t to create a different face. In fact, if someone walks out of my office looking obviously treated, I probably didn’t do my job very well. The best results happen when people start telling you that you look amazing but can’t quite figure out why. Maybe they ask if you’ve been on vacation. Maybe they wonder if you’ve changed your skincare routine. Maybe they think you’ve finally started getting eight hours of sleep every night. Meanwhile, you’re smiling because the answer is simply that we’ve helped restore some of what time gradually took away.
When Sculptra and filler are combined thoughtfully, we can often improve the appearance of jowls, strengthen the jawline, restore cheek support, and soften deeper folds while still maintaining a natural look. Patients don’t necessarily look younger. They simply look healthier, more rested, and more like themselves.
Look at this compelling before and after result of the jawline, jowls and even neck looseness in my brag book. Now isn’t that an amazing, natural looking result? It’s my artistic work that I love.
And honestly, that’s what most people are looking for. Nobody comes into Charmed Medispa and says they want to look like a completely different person. Most people just want to look in the mirror and recognize themselves again. They want a stronger jawline, less heaviness in the lower face, and the confidence that comes from looking as good on the outside as they feel on the inside.
