Lines & Wrinkles

Lines and wrinkles are a very common concern that fall under two categories. There are fine lines that usually develop in our 20’s and 30’s and then deeper more etched lines that are noticeable after age 40. Lines and wrinkles are part of the aging process and living life. Lines and wrinkles can be caused by a variety of factors.

• If you are an “expressive” person and smile or frown frequently, you most likely will develop lines and wrinkles faster than someone who tends to be less expressive. In essence, how you move your face causes etched lines on the skin where the skin constantly moves. These wrinkles are called dynamic wrinkles since they are formed by repeated facial motions.
• Sun exposure is a major contributor to lines and wrinkles. The radiation from the sun can break down collagen and create unhealthy skin that lacks support and structure. If you like to tan, you will develop wrinkles faster than someone who doesn’t. These wrinkles are called static lines because your skin has lost its elasticity and strength.
• Lines can also form based on how we sleep. The compression of the face, neck and chest during sleeping can form etched lines and wrinkles. Also, smoking can cause additional lines and wrinkles to form known as smoker’s lines.
