Every summer, we hear the same question from patients:
“Do I have to stop all treatments during the summer?”
The short answer is no.
One of the biggest misconceptions in aesthetics is that summer means you have to completely avoid treatments like lasers, microneedling, collagen stimulation, or corrective skincare. The truth is that many treatments can absolutely be performed safely during the warmer months when they are customized properly and paired with the right skincare and sun protection.
At Charmed Medispa, we believe summer is actually one of the most important times to focus on maintaining skin health. Rather than aggressively treating the skin, summer is the season where we prioritize prevention, hydration, collagen support, pigmentation management, and long term skin integrity.
As more advanced providers, we also know and believe education is just as important as the treatments themselves. Patients are constantly seeing conflicting information online about what is “safe” during summer, especially when it comes to lasers, microneedling, retinol, and chemical peels. The reality is that there is no one size fits all answer. Your skin type, lifestyle, sun exposure, travel plans, and current skin condition all matter.
Tips from our Nurse Injector, Loraine Savarese, RN
One of the things I always tell patients is that summer is not about over treating the skin. It’s about treating the skin intelligently.
Treatments like Sculptra, Sofwave and Exilis Ultra are excellent examples of procedures that can be safely incorporated into summer skincare plans because they focus on stimulating collagen beneath the surface of the skin without creating any downtime or surface stimulation.
Sofwave has become one of my favorite treatments for patients looking to improve skin laxity, jawline definition, fine lines, and overall firmness without surgery. Because the ultrasound energy works beneath the skin, patients are able to continue their normal routines with no interruption. Exilis Ultra is another treatment I love during the summer because it combines radiofrequency and ultrasound technology to tighten and contour while keeping downtime very manageable.
Many patients assume they need aggressive resurfacing to maintain youthful skin, but collagen maintenance and prevention are often far more important, especially during seasons with increased sun exposure.
Lasers can also still be performed during the summer in the right patients and with the proper precautions. The key is selecting appropriate treatments conservatively and educating patients thoroughly on aftercare. Summer treatments require partnership between provider and patient. Daily SPF, reapplication, hats, avoiding excessive heat immediately after treatment, and protecting the skin barrier all become extremely important. Remember that states like Florida lasers are done all year long.
What I never want patients to feel is fear surrounding aesthetic treatments during summer. Instead, I want them to understand that treatments must simply be approached thoughtfully and responsibly. Of course, you can always boost filler and Botox during the summer. Easy and reliable treatments all year.
Tips from Shae Ryan, Licensed Aesthetician in Delaware
Summer skin behaves very differently than winter skin. Heat, humidity, sweat, travel, sunscreen buildup, and increased UV exposure can all contribute to inflammation, congestion, dehydration, and pigmentation issues.
One of the biggest concerns I see during the summer months is hyperpigmentation. This includes melasma, post inflammatory pigmentation from acne, and uneven skin tone caused by sun exposure and inflammation. Unfortunately, many patients unintentionally worsen pigmentation during summer because they are over exfoliating, using strong products too aggressively, or not properly protecting their skin.
This is why I spend so much time educating patients on barrier health and consistency.
Microneedling is still one of my favorite treatments year round because it helps improve acne scars, texture, pores, fine lines, and overall skin quality by stimulating collagen naturally. However, aftercare becomes especially important during summer. Patients need to be mindful about direct sun exposure, sweating excessively, pools, beaches, and using harsh active ingredients while the skin is healing.
I also love pairing microneedling with growth factors or VAMP (a topical amino acid, mineral, vitamins and the “sperm facial” treatment) because they can help support healing while calming inflammation and enhancing rejuvenation.
Another important conversation we often have this time of year is about retinol. Retinol and prescription retinoids can be incredible for acne, texture, pigmentation, and collagen stimulation, but summer is not the time to start aggressively. One of the most common mistakes I see is patients using strong retinol products too frequently while also spending more time outdoors, which can quickly lead to irritation and a compromised skin barrier.
Starting slowly, focusing on hydration, and being diligent with SPF makes a tremendous difference.
Chemical peels are another treatment patients often assume they must avoid completely during summer. In reality, many gentle corrective peels can still be safely performed depending on the patient and their level of sun exposure. During summer, we usually focus on lighter treatments that help maintain brightness, improve congestion, and support skin health without causing excessive inflammation or prolonged downtime.
At Charmed Medispa, our philosophy is never about chasing aggressive treatments. It’s about creating personalized treatment plans that support healthy, beautiful skin in a safe and sustainable way throughout every season.
Summer skin should feel healthy, radiant, protected, and strong.
