The IPL Journey – How To Remove Sun Spots and Redness

IPL laser med spa delaware

Take a good look at your skin.  Do you see the effects of summer sun exposure even though you tried to cover and protect your skin?  Sun spots and broken capillaries are very common.  A beautiful solution to remove sun spots, freckles and improve redness and rosecea is IPL which stands for Intense Pulsed Light.  Our med spa in Delaware has certified laser operators, Shae Ryan and Loraine Savarese, RN, who specialize in laser technologies.  IPL is one of the most popular treatments this time of year.  IPL is also called a photofacial.  Here are the fundamentals to remember if you are considering an IPL photofacial.

First, if you have a current tan or darker skin tone, IPL is not a good option.  IPL recognizes the color of pigmentation including brown, pink, purple and redness and wants to remove these colors.  If your whole face is dark or tan, IPL can cause a blister.

However, IPL is very safe and effective on skin that does not have a tan even if you have lots of brown spots and redness.  IPL works by omitting a wavelength (light) to the skin and the light is absorbed by the pigment.  You can use IPL anywhere on the face, neck, chest and body.  The results of IPL can be dramatic without downtime.

You can expect your pigmentation to look darker after IPL almost immediately.  Look at the photos and see how much darker the pigmentation looks.  You can apply makeup at this time to conceal this.  The sun spots will lift to the surface of the skin and start falling off in about 7-10 days (your skin is not peeling).  The redness and broken capillaries will shrink over time.  In about three weeks you can see the full results from IPL as the pigmentation is cleared and the redness diminished.

We have a few tricks up our sleeves to produce superior results when having IPL so if you have had IPL in the past and did not see this type of result, call us to learn more about effective treatments with advanced providers.  You should see a result after one treatment.  Some conditions like rosecea and acne require multiple IPL treatments but you should appreciate the IPL results along the way.

In addition to light and laser therapies, we also offer skin tightening treatments like Sculptra, Infini and Exilis Ultra.  We have advanced techniques for Botox and fillers for facial lifting and contouring at our med spa.  Check out our five star med spa reviews and recommendations as well as our gallery of results.  Call us today to learn more about natural looking results and refreshment.
