Laser Hair Removal and Waxing

Fast, safe and effective

If you’re not happy with shaving, tweezing or waxing to remove unwanted hair, laser hair removal may be an option worth considering. Lasers are useful for removing unwanted hair from the face, leg, arm, underarm, bikini line and other areas of the body.

Laser hair removal is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic procedures in the U.S. Highly concentrated light is beamed into hair follicles. Pigment in the follicles absorb the light, destroying the hair.

But please keep in mind that laser hair removal is more than simply the ”zapping” of unwanted hair — it is a medical procedure which requires training to perform and carries potential risks.

Loraine Savarese, RN, and Shae Ryan are both nationally Certified Laser Operators-Aesthetic with over 13 years of laser experience each.  They have performed thousands of safe and effective laser therapies and are considered experts in the field of aesthetic lasers.

Laser Hair Removal Benefits

  • PRECISION
Lasers can selectively target dark, coarse hairs while leaving the surrounding skin undamaged.
  • SPEED
Each pulse of the laser takes a fraction of a second, treating many hairs in an area roughly the size of a quarter each second. Small areas like the upper lip can be treated in a few minutes. Larger areas such as the back or legs may take an hour or more.
  • PREDICTABILITY
Most patients have permanent hair reduction and loss in 4-10 sessions. How many treatments an individual may need will depend on skin type and the unique overall amount of hair grown.

Preparation

Before undergoing laser hair removal, clients should limit plucking, waxing, and electrolysis for 6 weeks before treatment. That’s because the laser targets hair roots, which are temporarily removed by waxing or plucking.

Sun exposure should also be avoided for 6 weeks before and after treatment. Sun exposure makes laser hair removal less effective, and complications after treatment more likely. Artificial tanners must also be avoided for at least 10 days before a session.

Treatment

During treatment, the area is cooled with a device that makes laser hair removal much more tolerable.  You can feel a “zap” in the area but with the cooling, you will be comfortable.  Laser hair removal can take a few minutes for small areas like the upper lip, chin and under arms and about 20 minutes for a full bikini area.  There will be no downtime with laser hair removal and your skin can be pink but you can resume your normal activities after treatment.

Benefits

The benefits of laser hair removal are removing unwanted hair as well as reducing or eliminating razor bumps in an area.  Some people suffer from bumps with irritation (folliculitis) from hairs and removing the unwanted hairs will also improve these bumps and irritations.  In addition, laser hair removal saves time in your life every day from avoiding shaving.  This is a huge lifetime benefit of laser hair removal.  Your skin will feel more silky and soft with laser hair removal.  All in all, laser hair removal has profound benefits with very little risks.
