Intense Pulsed Light and Laser Therapy

You will love the results!

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a state of the art system, and the latest technique in photo-facial and hair removal therapy. The IPL system delivers high intensity, smooth and powerful pulses of light — not lasers — that greatly enhance the results of skin rejuvenation or hair removal therapy.

  • Intense Pulsed Light photo-rejuvenation is an effective treatment for brown spots, redness, age spots, broken blood vessels, Rosacea and scarring.
  • Laser Therapies like Laser Transform and Laser Polish are effective for wrinkles, textured spots, skin tightening and rebuilding collagen.

For skin therapy, Intense Pulsed Light and Laser Therapies both stimulate new collagen growth, resulting in smoother and more even, healthier skin. The results of IPL and Laser Therapies can be dramatic and treatments are customized to your specific concerns.

Who is a good candidate?

IPL is an excellent choice for men and women of all ages who are considering treatment for various hair or skin problems, including:

  • Brown or age spots
  • Facial spider veins

  • Hair removal
  • Rosacea

  • Skin pigmentation
  • Superficial wrinkles

  • Scarring

What to expect

Our Registered Nurse or state-licensed Medical Aesthetican closely examines each client during an initial consultation to determine what treatments best match your desired goals. Our providers are Certified Aesthetic Laser Operators by the National Council on Laser Certification which is considered the highly level of training and expertise for laser therapies. Rest assured you are in expert hands.

The treatments may require application of a topical gel or anesthetic to numb the treatment area. Our certified laser operator providers will then use the hand-held IPL  or laser device to direct the treatment in your area of concern.

IPL is a simple and fast technique with minimal discomfort used to treat freckles, photodamage, age spots, and redness. Clients typically feel some warm sensations, or a very mild stinging during the treatment. Cold air is used to make the treatment comfortable. Occasionally, you may have some mild swelling after treatment. Because you are treated by an expert, you will need less treatments than providers who have less experience.

Laser therapies like Laser Transform and Laser Polish are used to resurface the skin to improve wrinkles, textured spots and lesions and tighten skin. The treatment is customized for each individual with no downtime to a few days of crusting and dryness. Consider that the more days of transition you have back to normal, you will have a better, more dramatic result.

Intense Pulsed Light and Laser Therapies can be combined on the same day so that you can get improvement of wrinkles, brown spots, textured lesions and more.  In addition, skin tightening can be done at the same time.  Intense Pulsed Light and Laser Therapies can be used on the face, neck, chest, decolletage, arms, hands, and back.  IPL and laser are highly satisfying with dramatic results that last.

Recovery and Maintenance

Some pinkness or redness may result in or around the treatment area. There may be some mild swelling, which will go away after a few days. It is important to protect the treated area from sunlight, tanning beds or other UV light.

Results

Results with IPL and Laser Therapies are typically seen after one or two treatments, depending on the nature of the problem. Some skin problems or hair removal will require several treatments before the desired outcome is achieved. Laser hair removal typically takes 6-8 treatments spaced 6-8 weeks apart.

FAQ's

1What is Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)?
IPL devices use multiple wavelengths of light to treat sun-induced changes on the face, including brown pigmentation, age spots and broken blood vessels. IPL is also used to treat the facial changes of Rosacea, including redness and broken blood vessels. IPL may be used for these changes on the hands, neck, chest, arms, and back as well. It is safe, non-invasive and tailored to the individual patient’s skin. The most common reasons people undergo IPL are to remove freckles, treat redness on the face and chest and improve scars. It is a simple office treatment with significant results!
2Is IPL painful?
When the pulses of light are applied to the skin, patients feel some stinging, similar in sensation to the snapping of a small rubber band against the skin. At Charmed Medispa, we use a cold air device to dramatically reduce the “snapping” feeling of Intense Pulsed Light. Use of this device improves treatment tolerance as well as post-treatment skin sensations.
3How is IPL performed?
The treatment area is cleansed and a cool gel is applied to the area being treated. Protective eye wear is always used to protect the patient’s eyes from the light. With the patient in a comfortable, relaxed position, the IPL hand piece is gently applied to the skin and light pulses are applied.
Treatments usually take 30-60 minutes, depending on which area is being treated.
4How many treatments will I need?
Patients generally have a series of two to six treatments, approximately one month apart. Most patients with freckles will see a dramatic reduction in one or two treatments! Redness of the face usually takes 2-3 treatments, and scarring can take three or more treatments.
5How will I look after each treatment?
Many patients experience a few days of pink to redness and mild swelling after the IPL procedure. Some brown spots may appear darker for a few days and then peel off. You can apply makeup immediately after IPL treatment if necessary. Most clients consider this treatment to have no downtime, and immediately resume normal activities.
6What skin care is needed before and after IPL treatment?
It is imperative that the area being treated is not tan the day of the procedure. Other areas on the body can be tan but not the treatment site. Afterwards, it is important to protect your skin from the sun using a sunscreen daily. Some clients might need to use a sensitive skin cleanser and moisturizer for about a week before resuming their normal skincare routine. If you use Retin A, you should discontinue it a few days before treatment.
7How long does the skin improvement last?
We like to say, you ‘turn the clock back’ with this type of procedure, but the clock keeps ticking! Most people complete their treatments and then return for a maintenance treatment once or twice a year if needed … though with excellent skin care management, many clients don’t feel the need to have more treatments! Intense Pulsed Light can give you long-lasting results. This is one of our most popular treatments, with high satisfaction!
